I’ve been enjoying the seasonal shift of May – golden leaves crunching underfoot, the crisp bite in the morning air, the comforting scent of the burning wood fire, warm socks, early dusks, and endless cups of tea.
That’s what autumn means to me. It’s been a strange-old month here in rural Waikato. The days are getting shorter but the sunrises are glorious and well worth getting up for…not that I have a choice. My body-clock springs me out of bed whenever it desires and it has a new liking for around 4am!
I’m already excited about June! My best ADHD life is one packed with balance and joy, and I’m rediscovering old joys that I must squeeze in to my eclectic world – they are too much fun not to. But rather than jump ahead, I’m appreciating the May that was.
ADHD Questions: This month, I had the pleasure of releasing two solo episodes on the ADHDifference podcast called Curiously ADHD. I’ve been asked lots of ADHD-related questions over the months and I thought they were really important. If someone was brave enough to ask, I can only presume there are others wanting to know too. I’ve had countless conversations with specialists, with ADHDers, and wonderful people just like you who are trying to understand what it means to live well with this ADHD difference, so I did my best to impart my thoughts and suggestions. Part One addresses topics from second opinions to impulsive spending, emotional dysregulation to re-diagnosis. Part Two ponders medication worries to meditation matters, label stigma to unmasking fatigue. If anything resonates, fabulous. If not, that’s okay too. Take what works and leave what doesn’t.
Triple Combo: I also had a great chat with Cali Keating about “Multiple Exceptionalities”, a term used to describe multiple neurodivergent diagnoses such as ADHD, OCD and autism, all bundled together. Our discussion looked into the mechanisms and nuances of overlapping traits, of OCD and “Pure O” which involves intense mental rituals rather than visible compulsions. It was a interesting interview and I love it when I come away learning new things.
Tap, Tap, Tap: I was joined by Theresa Lear Levine for a conversation about the importance of finding joy in the everyday, and how to tap into those things that make you happy, even the small stuff! Through EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), Theresa helps people move through the stuck spots like anxiety, self-doubt, overwhelm, to uncover a more connected version of themselves.
Anyway, that was me! Thanks for tuning in, following along, or just catching up with my updates.
Take care…and be sure to keep warm and snug.
