As we close the chapter on April, I’m taking a moment to reflect on what has been a fun and hectic month.
Personal Highlights
A special highlight this month was attending Ages of Pages, a wonderful author event celebrating New Zealand and Australian writers. It was a privilege to be surrounded by so many passionate readers and talented authors, sharing stories, experiences, and a deep love for the written word. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by my stall to chat, have their book signed, and share a special connection.
Over on the ADHDifference Podcast, April brought a series of thought-provoking discussions.
Accountability Partners — Have you heard of Body Doubling? It’s a simple yet remarkably effective strategy for staying on task when motivation wanes. Working alongside another person, even in silence, can offer the gentle accountability and external structure that so many of us with ADHD benefit from. Whether it’s tackling household chores or creative projects, body doubling has become a supportive tool in our everyday lives.
The Battle Inside: When We Talk Ourselves Down — Critical voices can so often linger from childhood, schooling, or early career experiences. Negative Self-Talk is often experienced by those of us with ADHD but there are strategies that help us shift from harsh self-criticism to more compassionate internal dialogue. It’s an ongoing practice — not something we get “right” every time — but recognising those negative scripts is often the first step toward rewriting them with kindness and understanding.
Feeling All the Feels About Fairness — A topic that feels almost stitched into the fabric of many ADHD experiences is Justice Sensitivity — how deeply we feel perceived injustice, not only towards ourselves but towards others.
Women, Leadership, and Being True to Ourselves — I had the pleasure of interviewing the inspiring Dr Alessandra Wall who offered incredible insights into how women — particularly those who are neurodivergent — can bring a unique and often under-appreciated strength to leadership roles. We discussed the importance of authenticity, the myth of having to “do it all,” and the quiet courage it takes to lead in a way that honours both professional ambition and personal wellbeing.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your messages, your stories, and your support continue to inspire me, and I’m so grateful to be travelling alongside such a thoughtful, courageous community.
Here’s to a beautiful May ahead, filled with new ideas, deeper connections, and always, a little more kindness to ourselves.
