4th OLDER album now out: SELFIE released today

I’m super-excited! I’ve got a SELFIE!

These 12 songs span decades of writing, sitting quietly in notebooks and on dusty tape reels, waiting for the right moment to be set free into the world. They never were quite the right fit for our previous albums (SILENCE, HUMAN+ and UNMASKED). But now they’ve found each other. Together, they make perfect sense as a cohesive ‘selfie’ album.

We took the time to rework and reimagine each track, producing them with fresh ears and OLDER’s signature lens…yes, Jel’s Rickenbacker bass and crazy production, my vocals, and all the quirks we generally tend to add. SELFIE is what happens when the musical black sheep get their own spotlight.

Why call the album SELFIE? Well, each track has a story, an observation, an experience, a feeling, in a time and place that reflects a moment in our lives.

We were lucky enough to have the album reviewed by Paul Goddard, a UK-based singer and reviewer with Muzic.nz. Here are some of our favourite reflections from his review:

“Listening to SELFIE is like looking through someone’s photo albums and getting snapshots of moments in their life. Transmorphing those moments, those stories, into your moments, adding to the soundtrack of your life.”

“You would expect such a diverse collection of songs written over a long period to feel somewhat disjointed. Maybe even a bit dated… The reality is that with SELFIE, Older has created something special. Something that stands out even from their other material.”

“Julie has a timeless and ageless voice… Each listen will take you on a different journey… This album needs to be listened to repeatedly. It gives more and more each time.”

“With SELFIE, Older has created a classic. A collection of songs that spans years of observing, feeling, daring to be individual, whilst staying focused on the here and now.” READ THE FULL REVIEW

And now we get to share the music video, another DIY project, true to the spirit of the album. It’s simple, it’s just us. Just a real-time reflection of who we are and where we’re at.
